Are we looking in the wrong place for ET?
Scientists suggest 'footprints' on moon

Scientists suggest 'footprints' on moon
could be best place to look for alien life
- Alien missions to moon likely to have been long ago
- Moon would preserve traces for millions of years
- Easier to find alien debris than radio signals
- Nasa's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter may have captured pictures of 'footprints' of ancient aliens
But two astronomers suggest that we may be missing evidence much closer to home.
Two scientists at Arizona State University have suggested that alien life may have 'left traces on the moon in the form of an artifact or surface modification of lunar features' - and that alien 'footprints' on the moon would last far longer than radio signals.

The detailed moon maps created by Nasa's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter may be the best place to look for alien life, say scientists - evidence such as trails or debris would remain there for millions of years, and be easier to 'catch' than radio signals

accurate visions of other worlds - including
what Earth looked like 240 million years ago
Astrobiologist Abel Mendez of the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo has designed a software package that can draw real-looking worlds based on the scientific data we receive from space telescopes - and says Nasa gets it wrong.
Mendez's software package draws planets based on their size, distance from their parent star and chemistry - and can create 3D images that correspond to the data.
The imagery sent out when missions such as Nasa's Kepler telescope find 'exoplanets' - planets outside our solar system - is still imagined by artists. Mendez claims that his approach is more scientific.

Ancient Texts Tell Tales of War, Bar Tabs
A trove of newly translated texts from the ancient Middle East are revealing accounts of war, the building of pyramidlike structures called ziggurats and even the people's use of beer tabs at local taverns.
The 107 cuneiform texts, most of them previously unpublished, are from the collection of Martin Schøyen, a businessman from Norway who has a collection of antiquities.

Could hackers develop a 'computer virus' to infect the human mind?
- Synthetic biology is 'out-accelerating evolution' - expert
- Bio-crime today is 'like computer crime in the Eighties'
- Viruses could be used to influence behaviour - and we may have to 'learn how to counterattack'
- 'One of the most powerful technologies in the world'

Californian biologist Andrew Hessel says, 'Cells are living computers and DNA is a programming language,' but warns that this could lead to viruses and bacteria used to 'hack' human minds
The field of 'synthetic biology' is in its infancy. We can 'tweak' the genetics of life forms - but billionaire entrepreneur Craig Venter only created 'artificial life' for the first time last year, christening his life form 'Synthia'.
But experts working within the field believe that our expertise is out-accelerating natural evolution by a factor of millions of years - and some warn that synthetic biology could spin out of control.
It could lead, says Andrew Hessel of Singularity University, on Nasa's research campus, to a world where hackers could engineer viruses or bacteria to control human minds.
Hessel believes that genetic engineering is the next frontier of computing.
'This is one of the most powerful technologies in the world,' says Hessel 'Synthetic biology - the writing of life.'
'I advocate that cells are living computers and DNA is a programming language.'
'I want to see life programmed and used to solve global challenges so that humanity can achieve a sustainable relationship within the biosphere,' he says. It's growing fast. It will grow faster than computer technologies.'
He predicts a world where we can 'print' DNA, and even 'decode' it. But he warned, in a speech at technology conference TXM, that viruses and bacteria send chemicals into human brains - and could be used to influence, or even 'control' their host.

Giant plumes of methane bubbling to surface of Arctic Ocean
Russian scientists have discovered hundreds of plumes of methane gas, some 1,000 meters in diameter, bubbling to the surface of the Arctic Ocean. Scientists are concerned that as theArctic Shelf recedes, the unprecedented levels of gas released could greatly accelerate global climate change.
Igor Semiletov of the Russian Academy of Sciences tells the UK's Independent that the plumes of methane, a gas 20 times as harmful as carbon dioxide, have shocked scientists who have been studying the region for decades. "Earlier we found torch-like structures like this but they were only tens of meters in diameter," he said. "This is the first time that we've found continuous, powerful and impressive seeping structures, more than 1,000 metres in diameter. It's amazing."

The Las Vegas UFO Crash, April 18, 1962
![]() Very few of the crash/retrieval stories take place on a military reservation. The majority of the reports are from civilians who have happened onto the scene of an extraordinary event. The reported destruction of a craft near Nellis Air Force Base, outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1962 is the exception that proves the rule. The vast Nellis complex is the one location where it seems a flying saucer crashed right into government and air force hands. And there are, literally, dozens of firsthand witnesses to the fact.Like many of the reports of UFO crashes, the Las Vegas case was overlooked by most of the UFO research community. Frank Edwards, who mentioned the Roswell case in a single paragraph in his 1966 book Flying Saucers-Serious Business, wrote more about the crash near Las Vegas in his 1964 book Strange World. Although he often wrote from memory and didn't always check his facts as closely as possible, he did get the basics of the case reported before anyone else bothered with it. |
Pluto's Moons Could Spell Danger for New Horizons Spacecraft
A pair of small moons orbiting Pluto named Nix and Hydra were discovered by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope in 2005. The two moons are roughly 5,000 times fainter than Pluto and are about two to three times farther from Pluto than its large moon, Charon, which was discovered in 1978. CREDIT: NASA |
When NASA's New Horizons spacecraft reaches Pluto in July 2015, it may find the region more hazardous than anticipated. The discovery of several moons around Pluto — and the potential for more — increase the risks during the probe's flyby.
The main problem is debris. The small moons are under constant bombardment from nearby space rocks called Kuiper Belt objects, but the moons' low gravity prevents them from holding on to chunks of dirt and rock that fly into the air when hit. The debris instead finds itself caught in orbit around Pluto, where it could pose a serious threat to New Horizons.

The Arrival of Bolon Yokte K'uh - 21 December 2012
The Tortuguero Monument predicts the end of the long count on 4 Ajaw, 3 K'ank'in, 13.0.0.0.0 - 21 December 2012. It also predicts the descent of Bolon Yokte K'uh. The link in the previous sentence gives a thorough summary of the information available on this God, so I won't go into too much detail about him. My simplistic view of things is that each underworld has a God associated with it. When all nine underworlds end together, Bolon Yokte K'uh, who is a combination of all the Gods comes down. Though I'm not really sure what the Mayan's were trying to get at, the implication is that the power of Bolon Yokte K'uh is much greater than individual Gods, so the potential changes he brings are significant.

Second Mayan 2012 reference found
MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s archaeology institute downplays theories that the ancient Mayas predicted some sort of apocalypse would occur in 2012, but on Thursday it acknowledged that a second reference to the date exists on a carved fragment found at a southern Mexico ruin site.
Most experts had cited only one surviving reference to the date in Mayan glyphs, a stone tablet from the Tortuguero site in the Gulf coast state of Tabasco.

Ancient Egyptian Medicine
In Sickness and in Health: Preventative and Curative Health Care

Unlike the injuries caused by accidents or fighting, which were dealt with by the zwn.w (sunu),[37] or scorpion stings and snake bites for which the xrp srqt (kherep serqet) [37], the exorcist of Serqet, knew the appropriate spells and remedies, illnesses and their causes were mysterious. The Egyptians explained them as the work of the gods, caused by the presence of evil spirits or their poisons, and cleansing the body was the way to rid the body of their influence. Incantations, prayers to the gods - above all to Sekhmet [9] the goddess of healing, curses, and threats, often accompanied by the injection of nasty smelling and tasting medicines into the various bodily orifices, were hoped to prove effective.

Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind was based on a TRUE STORY...
The Real Reason Kennedy was Killed!
The Real Reason Kennedy was Killed!
In the movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, written and directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 1977, an alien spaceship lands, by prearrangement with the U.S. government, on a high mesa called The Devil’s Tower in a remote corner of Wyoming and an ambassadorial exchange takes place. A single alien disembarks and is escorted away, presumably to a secret site. Then, twelve American astronauts in orange jumpsuits and industrial strength sunglasses, with duffel bags slung over their shoulders, ten men and two women, march into the spacecraft to be whisked away to the alien home planet. In the previous scene, they are blessed by a clergyman, who refers to them as “pilgrims.”

Can a wristband make you thin?
Jawbone's electric nagging bracelet might just do the trick
Jawbone's electric nagging bracelet might just do the trick

Jawbone's Up has a motion sensor that tracks how you sleep, how much exercise you do - and even tells you when you've been sitting still for too long
Jawbone are best known for their barely-there Bluetooth headsets - but their new product, the Up wristband, has much loftier goals.
The £80 wristband tracks your eating habits, sleep and exercise - syncing with an app in your phone to offer advice about how to be healthier.
From the moment it gets you up - by vibrating at the 'best' possible moment according to your sleep patterns - the machine monitors everything you do, prompting you to get up and move if you've been sat still, and even to 'log' everything you eat.
It's like having a nagging personal trainer who never goes away, and never shut up.
Italian scientist claims he has achieved 'cold fusion' - the only problem is that most physicists think it is impossible
- Andrea Rossi says he can fuse nickel and hydrogen at room temperature creating almost unlimited energy
- Many scientists simply claim it defies the very laws of physics and cannot be true

True or false? Andrea Rossi, pictured, says he has built a machine achieving 'cold fusion' but scientists question if it is possible
An Italian physicist claims he has managed to achieve 'cold fusion' - a procedure that could solve the world's energy crisis by creating huge amounts of safe nuclear energy without dangerous radiation.
Andrea Rossi says his new machine fuses nickel and hydrogen at room temperature creating almost unlimited energy.
But there is one problem - many scientists claim it defies the very laws of physics. Several high-profile demonstrations of 'cold fusion' have been proven to be hoaxes in the past - and no one can adequately explain how or why it might work.
The United States Department of Energy the U.S. Patent Office say the process is impossible because physics rules out the possibility of room-temperature nuclear fusion.
But Rossi's E-Cat machine can allegedly do it, and he says he proved it worked during tests at the University of Bologna last month.
'With low energy, it's possible to give a heater a certain amount of energy and to get from the same heater a superior amount of energy,' he said.
'The heat is initiated by electrical resistance. The reactors then produce another 479kWh of energy for another three to four hours without needing that initial electrical input -- the low-level nuclear reaction continues on its own.
The World in 2100: Ten Billion People, No Oil and Not Enough Food
With global population now at seven billion, it may be time to start planning for what the world will look like in the coming years.
Though most of us won't be around to see it, the United Nations has projected that our incredible population growth will level off at around 10 billion people by the year 2100.
Already, at seven billion, we are experiencing severe poverty, hunger, a shortage of resources, increased urbanization and climate change issues.
Will we be doomed by 2100, or can we make it work? Since we've only got one planet (so far), let's hope for the latter.
